LG has just published a press release saying that G2 owners in Korea will get an update to Android 4.4 KitKat by the end of this month. Considering that there are just two weeks left, the wait will be short. And with regards to G2 owners in other countries, no comment has been made. I can only assume that if you bought an unlocked model, you’ll probably get your update at some point in January. If you bought your G2 from an American operator, however, then you’re probably going to wait a little while longer.

What if you don’t have a G2, should you buy one? That’s a question that’s difficult to answer since there are multiple issues that come into play. If you have a device that’s a year old, then no, you should wait to see what’s going to get announced during the next three months. If you have an old phone you want to replace this Christmas, then I thoroughly recommend you give the G2 a chance. It’s screen is gorgeous, the camera is great, and the battery life is out of this world. The skin sucks, but that’s why Nova Launcher exists. Truth be told, while the G2 is an amazing piece of engineering, if you’re in a country where you can buy a Nexus 5, then that’s probably the phone you should get considering what kind of specs you get for the money. In the end, everything comes down to value for your dollars spent. It’s really hard to beat a $350 flagship.
