LG today unveiled its latest flagship smartphone: the LG G7 ThinQ. The handset features a 6.1-inch QHD+ (3120 x 1440) FullVision display with a 19.5:9 aspect ratio display. The odd aspect ratio of the display is because of the notch at the top similar to what we have seen on the iPhone X.

LG has also managed to reduce the bottom bezel of the device by 50 percent thereby increasing the screen-to-body ratio of the device. The G7 ThinQ features LG’s new LCD technology which is capable of reaching brightness levels of up to 1,000 nits. It also supports 100 percent DCI-P3 color gamut and offers improved viewing angles, improved color accuracy, and saturation than previous LCD panels used by LG. In terms of design, the G7 features a polished metal rim which is sandwiched by Gorilla Glass 5 panels at the front and rear. The handset is also IP68 certified making it dust and water-resistant. LG says it has designed the handset to meet the MIL-STD 810G tests. The company will be offering the handset in four different colors to help make it stand out from other phones in the market featuring a similar glass design. LG has also included a dedicated button to launch Google Assistant on the handset, while a double press of the button will launch Google Lens. This makes it the first phone in the market to come with a dedicated Assistant button. The G7 ThinQ continues to feature a dual-camera setup at its rear, though it has been improved in every aspect. Both cameras, the primary and super wide-angle one, feature a 16MP sensor. The primary sensor has an f/1.6 aperture, while the wide-angle lens features an f/1.9 lens. The latter has also been improved to reduce distortion on edges. Continuing with its focus on AI, LG has upgraded AI CAM on the G7 to ensure it is now able to select between 19 different scenes. This allows the handset to automatically optimize the camera settings depending on the scene being captured for improved photo quality. There’s also a Portrait mode for capturing photos with a bokeh effect. This mode is available for both sensors located at the rear. At the front, there is an 8MP f/1.9 selfie shooter which is also used for face recognition. Keeping with the trend, the G7 ThinQ also comes with stickers and 3D overlays which make use of face recognition for improved accuracy. LG has also continued with its focus on audio quality with the G7. The handset supports DTS:X which offers virtual 3D sound in 7.1 channel audio. It also comes with a Hi-Fi Quad DAC for excellent sound quality that is unmatched by any other smartphone in the market right now. There’s also a Boombox speaker which makes use of the internal space of the G7 as a resonance chamber to offer double the bass and sound without requiring external speakers. Other specs of the 7.9mm thick handset include a Snapdragon 845 chipset, 4/6GB RAM, 64/128GB of storage, a microSD card slot, Wi-Fi ac, Bluetooth 5.0, NFC, and USB-C connectivity. The phone is powered by a 3000mAh battery with Quick Charge 3.0 support. The LG G7 ThinQ will release in the “coming days” in South Korea followed by a wider launch in parts of Europe, Latin America, and Asia.
