LG today announced a major new software update for the LG G6 and also unveiled a more feature-packed version of the handset, dubbed LG G6 Plus. The new Plus variant of the handset features the same internals as the regular G6 but comes with 128GB of storage space and a Hi-Fi Quad DAC.

Additionally, LG is also bundling premium B&O Play earphones with the handset. The LG G6 Plus will be available in three colors: Optical Marine Blue, Optical Astro Black, and Optical Terra Gold. LG will also be offering the G6 in Optical Terra Gold and Optical Marine Blue colors from next month. Similar to the regular G6 which featured wireless charging only in selected markets, the G6 Plus will also feature wireless charging in certain markets. As for the software update, it will be bringing quite a lot of new features to the G6. This includes Face Print, LG’s own take on Facial Unlock. The front camera on the phone is automatically activated when the phone is raised and it unlocks the device as soon as it detects a registered face. This ensures that battery drain while using the feature is kept to a minimum. Another new feature that will be a part of this update is Low Power Consumption. Taking advantage of Qualcomm’s Hexagon DSP and the All-Ways Aware Hub, the handset will collect data from all sensors and wireless connections to help improve the user experience and usability of third party applications with minimum impact on battery. Lastly, the update will also introduce a Covered Lens warning whenever there it detects a finger in the frame while using the wide-angle camera sensor on the handset. The LG G6 Plus and the new software update for the LG G6 will start rolling out from next month.
