The LG G3 will be officially announced tomorrow, and even though we have seen our fair share of rumors and leaks from various sources, there are still a few questions that are left unanswered, and others that have been discredited along the way. Below is a list of everything we know about the LG G3 so far, including the confirmed specs, the ambiguous ones, and the ones that were debunked.
Confirmed specs
Design: the LG G3’s design will be quite reminiscent of the current G2, with tiny bezels on the front, no buttons around the side, and the camera, power button, and volume keys on the back. Dimensions: 146.3mm x 74.6mm x 8.9mm. Screen: it will be a 2K QHD 2560 x 1440 LCD display, at 5.5″ diagonal. Processor: a Snapdragon 801 is in tow. RAM and storage: the most likely option is 3GB of RAM, along with 32GB of on-board storage. A microSD slot is confirmed as well. Camera: a 13MP camera with OIS+, similar to the G Pro 2. Laser focus assist: the most out-there spec of the G3 turned out to be true. This phone will use some sort of laser assistance to focus its images. It should help with low-light photography. Battery: 3000mAh, with a removable battery cover, unlike the G2. New design and UI for all of LG’s apps and elements. Available colors: white, gold, and dark grey or black. Accessories: the G3 will have two official accessories so far, a wireless charging dock and the Quick Circle case.
Ambiguous specs
Metallic finish: we still don’t know what material the G3 will be made of. The renders and leaks point to a metallic look, but is that a real metal, or plastic made to look like metal? Also, could there be two different finishes of the phone? Water resistance: it was only rumored once, and we never heard about it again. It could still happen, but I’m starting to be doubtful of it. Wireless charging: there will definitely be some form of wireless charging with the G3. The QuickCircle case and the wireless charging dock both hint to the possibility, though we’re wondering whether the G3 will be Qi-compatible right out of the box, or if you’ll have to buy a separate back cover for it. Two variants: besides the metallic/non-metallic dichotomy, there were also rumors of another cheaper G3 variant with 2GB of RAM and 16GB of internal storage. We still don’t know whether this is true, but it’s a possibility. New LG features: a “concierge” that surfaces information before you need it (in a Google Now’esque approach) and a smart contextual homescreen that adapts to your environment might be included with the G3’s software. The latest rumor is related to the microSD slot, with possible support for 2TB microSDs. We have yet to see wide availability of 128GB microSD cards, so that might just be a touting spec for LG that doesn’t make any difference in real use.
Debunked specs
Snapdragon 805: we heard about the possibility of the G3 sporting the 805 a couple of times, but every semi-official press leak that has followed only included the 801, including the slide at an LG event in Korea. Fingerprint scanner: we never believed there would be one on the G3, given LG’s focus on Knock Code as a security measure, but still, some rumors hinted at it. 16MP Camera: the camera resolution on the G3 oscillated between 13MP and 16MP for the longest time, but all legit leaks have finally settled on 13MP.
