Northside Shack

The acai to end all acai—Northside Shack truly emboldens delicious bowls that are monster like. Founded by chef Pamela Olvera, a first generation Mexican-American, her vision was to bring produce “where people can turn to for a healthy alternative.” Now bustling with people from all walks of San Diego—the shack continues to churn out delicious Acai Bowls from scratch and thirst quenching smoothies. // 1255 N. Communal Coffee

San Diego’s coffee and cafe scene is next level—marrying premium aesthetic with good brews, we never wanted to leave. Owner Jen Byard used her background in the art and non-profit worlds to pull these two concepts together in their first location in North Park. And as a plus, the coffee spot uses SF locals Sightglass. Which hey, is usually a very good sign. // 2335 University Ave, San Diego; communalcoffee.com.

Born and Raised

The date spot your grandparents went to has brought a sense of timeless modernism to the front—Born and Raised became an instant classic in our book. Surrounded by some impressively cooked steak and wagyu options, we were absolutely stuffed—a serious hats off to the chef. Marrying 1920’s wood decor and the flair of the 30’s, it’s like you’re sitting comfortably in a Great Gatsby dream. We’ll cheers to that. // 1909 India St, San Diego; bornandraisedsteak.com.

Ironside Oyster

Little Italy was built by the fishing industry—Ironside Oysters continues that historical narrative with their contemporary interpretation of the classic fish house and oyster bar. Located in a historic auction house on India St, they did a full comprehensive restoration of the building, with three open-air culinary hubs featuring an expansive raw bar, chefs table, and bakery. Ever more, trying to be mindful of the past while looking towards the future. Getting yourself a full body cocktail and tray of oysters is not a bad way to spend it by the water. // 1654 India St, San Diego; ironsidefishandoyster.com.

La Jolla cove

A perfect summer spot—the beaches are made for easy relaxing to the sounds of wave but also crystal clear for swimming. Though it does get quite packed, we recommend coming early to snag yourself a parking and beach spot or later in the evening when the sun sets. The Cove itself is protected as part of a marine reserve; underwater it is very rich in marine life, and is popular with snorkelers, swimmers and scuba divers. // Google map the name for an accurate address.

Coronado

A city just off the coast of San Diego—Coronado is a retiree’s dream but for those antiquarians out there, this time capsule of an island homes some beautifully deco’ed properties. Pops of light blue, pink, and creme can be seen from home to home—truly inspirational. // Google map the name for an accurate address.
