A new video showcases the size comparisons of objects, people and planets in the Star Wars universe. When the first Star Wars movie premiered in 1977, it was likely that no one involved expected the film to launch a franchise that would still be going strong in 2019. That first epic space opera took moviegoers to a galaxy far, far away, launching two more films and a massive amount of merchandise.
In 90s and 00s, the trilogy got three prequels, and although fans tore them apart, those movies remain a part of the franchise. However, Star Wars came back even bigger and better in 2015’s Star Wars: The Force Awakens, which introduced new characters into the series, while also bringing back some old familiar faces. J.J. Abrams produced, co-wrote and directed the movie, which went on to become the highest-grossing movie of 2015, and the 10th highest-grossing film of 2016, making over $2 billion at the global box office by the end of its theatrical run. Star Wars: The Last Jedi followed, and despite fans either completely loving it or hating it, the movie managed to become the most profitable blockbuster movie of 2017. Two spinoffs also released: Rogue One and Solo. Interest in the Star Wars franchise has never been higher, especially with a third film in the new trilogy hitting theaters this year.
Sometimes, though, it’s the little things that Star Wars fans appreciate. Most notably, the details in the objects, people and places in the Star Wars universe itself. MetaBallStudios posted a video detailing some of the objects, people and planets most fans are familiar with and put them in order according to size. The result is a video that takes almost 10 minutes of viewing time. It begins with the smallest object, the lightsaber, and works its way up to Yoda, Darth Vader, Jabba the Hutt, the various starships and the known planets of the galaxy.
The AT-AT is impressive at 22.5 meters tall (about 73 feet), but most interesting is that two life-size versions are being built for Galaxy’s Edge, a new Star Wars-themed land in Disneyland and Walt Disney World. Those two AT-AT units will impressively tower over guests in Disney Parks sometime in 2019. Both parks are also creating the Millennium Falcon, but there’s no word on whether it will be life-size, too, which, according to this video is, 34.75 meters in length (about 114 feet).
A lot of attention to detail went into this video and seeing how each object and person looks in comparison to everything else in Star Wars is undoubtedly fascinating. It’s also interesting seeing just how much larger the Starkiller Base is in the new films in contrast to the older movies’ Death Star, which puts a different perspective on what the First Order is capable of.
