The Legends of Tomorrow season 5 trailer is officially here, and the new footage includes Waverider’s latest shenanigans. Fans of the Arrowverse time-traveling drama have been forced to wait patiently since season 4 ended in May, when The CW decided to slot Legends of Tomorrow as a mid-season series once again. Following the end of season 4, Astra (Olivia Swann) ended up releasing 16 souls of several historical sinners who are all now getting a second chance at life. The 5th season will, therefore, have Constantine (Matt Ryan) back again as the team battles the supernatural.

But before fans can get to the new season, the Arrow/The Flash spin-off will have to join the rest of the Arrowverse for Crisis on Infinite Earths. The upcoming 5-hour event will see Legends of Tomorrow star Brandon Routh pulling double duty; not only will the actor reprise the role of Ray Palmer/The Atom, but Routh is also suiting up as Superman once more, this time inspired by Alex Ross’ Kingdom Come graphic novel. However, Routh will be departing the series later next year along with his wife Courtney Ford, who plays Nora Darhk, scheduled to happen sometime in the middle of Legends of Tomorrow season 5. Although details have been limited about the new season, The CW has finally given viewers something to look forward to.

Today, The CW released the Legends of Tomorrow season 5 trailer on YouTube which offers several looks at what’s coming up in the DC series’ 5th year. Not only does the superhero comedy-drama tease the arrival of Routh’s Kingdom Come Superman, but also the warning about them facing their biggest Crisis yet. But in traditional Legends of Tomorrow spirit, it doesn’t take long before the “dramedy” cuts away to the absolute craziness which is sure about to arrive in January.

Legends of Tomorrow season 5 will begin by being the final hour in the Crisis on Infinite Earths crossover on Tuesday, January 14. The 5th hour of the crossover is said to be a “special episode” of  Legends of Tomorrow, one which doesn’t officially serve as the season premiere. The official kick-off for season 5 will be on Tuesday, January 21 with the episode “Meet the Legends.” Season 5 will come with several new things to look forward to, including Caity Lotz, who plays Sara Lance a.k.a. the White Canary, making her directorial debut with the 5th episode “Mortal Khanbat.”

Following the events of the season 4 finale, viewers can also expect to meet a new version of Zari Tomaz (Tala Ashe) as her future existence got rewritten when she changed the past. The trailer actually features two brief glimpses of the new Zari which may offer clues to what she will be like when the Legends find her. As Crisis on Infinite Earths arrives and the new season approaches, expect Legends of Tomorrow to rock 2020 with its expected craziness when it properly returns on Tuesday, January 21, on The CW.
