Ahead of Google I/O later today, Google seems to have accidentally seeded the Developer Preview 2 of Android P to a Pixel 2 owner thereby spilling some of the goods it was to announce at its keynote today.
The highlight of the leak has to be a gesture-based approach for navigation. Once the Swipe up on Home button gesture is enabled, the Recent apps button from the navigation bar is hidden. Then, one can swipe up on the Home button to switch between apps. Swiping again will bring up the Recent apps view which has been redesigned with a vertical view. You can also quickly cycle through between all the apps running on your phone by dragging the home button to the left or right which essentially acts as a scrolling bar. There are plenty of other minor changes as shown from the leaked screenshots. This includes a Prevent Ringing option which can be activated by pressing the volume up and power button together. It is likely that pressing this button combo will enable Do Not Disturb mode instead of just silencing an incoming call since the latter can be done pretty easily right now by pressing the power or volume button depending on the device you own. Google’s official I/O 2018 keynote kicks off in just a few hours from now. I’d expect the company to provide more details about Android P DP 2 and this new gesture-based navigation interface then.
