But by 2011, it blew up and gained a user base of 11 million players. Again, by 2014, the number reached 65 million players, with a more significant leap in 2017 to 100 million. After that, there was a dip in the number of players, reaching close to 75 million in 2018. However, it was only a minor hiccup as it got slightly close to 120 million players in 2020. And now, in 2023, we are League of Legends. It is sitting with 180 million players worldwide.

It is way bigger than DOTA 2, and DOTA 2 might have to only play catchup with it in the coming years. After witnessing the game’s growth in recent years, we do not see the game faltering in terms of numbers any day soon in the future.
